Katherine M. Kennedy
A native of Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island thereafter, Katherine “Katie” Kennedy graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School in 2006 and attended The State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in Marine Biology in 2010. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Appalachian School of Law, graduating cum laude.
Following law school, she served as a judicial fellow for the Honorable D. Webster Keogh in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania’s Civil Litigation Division, Philadelphia. In 2016, Katie joined the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center, a project of the Women’s Resource Center in Scranton. While at the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center, Katie represented survivors of domestic and sexual violence in family law, immigration, housing, and consumer debt matters in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties.
Katie relocated to Pittsburgh in 2017 and served as a guardian ad litem/child’s attorney while employed at KidsVoice. KidsVoice advocates in court and in the community to ensure a safe and permanent home for abused, neglected and at-risk children. By and through her work at KidsVoice, Katie became inspired to help foster children in a different way and signed on as Counsel for the Allegheny County Office of Children Youth and Families, serving as a staff attorney within the Adoption Legal Unit. While in the Adoption Legal Unit, Katie handled a significant hearing caseload and successfully argued numerous appeals at the Superior Court level. Katie also handled subsidy appeals and argued for the county before the Bureau of Hearings and Affairs in Harrisburg and also in Pittsburgh.
Aside from her history in civil trial and family law, Attorney Kennedy is very active within the Pennsylvania Bar Association and has since rejoined the Lackawanna County Bar Association.
Katie moved back to Lackawanna County during the summer of 2022 and joined the firm in 2022. She concentrates her practice on family and child welfare law (PFA, custody, divorce, support, dependency, and TPR/Adoption matters), immigration law, zoning and tax assessment appeals, employment discrimination, and other civil litigation cases. Katie serves the following PA counties: Lackawanna, Wayne, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Monroe, Luzerne, Pike, Sullivan, Carbon; and she also serves the Lehigh Valley and Lycoming County as her schedule allows.
